What’s a 4-letter word for these movies? FREE!

They say the best things in life are free, and what could be better than free movies?

The following 5 titles currently streaming for free via Redbox On Demand are about as different as can be, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Tango & Cash – The following plot — "Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell play rival LA detectives who must work together after they’re framed for murder” — might sound like it could’ve come from one of countless indistinguishable ‘80s cop movies. But this film is different. This is one of those movies that has to be seen to be believed. A movie that has dozens of “think pieces” dedicated to its extreme weirdness. A movie that left many critics dumbfounded. And despite all that, it’s still a movie that may actually get a sequel soon, because that’s how Hollywood works.

Pleasantville – Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon star as siblings who get sucked into a 1950s TV show and learn that life isn’t as peachy keen as it appears on the screen.

Boogie Nights – This movie depressed the heck out of me and made me feel pretty icky overall, but I think everyone should watch it once. Mark Wahlberg leads a star-studded cast (Julianne Moore, Heather Graham, Don Cheadle, John C. Reilly, Burt Reynolds and more) as a high-school dropout turned, um, adult film star. This Paul Thomas Anderson film earned 3 Academy Award nominations and has a killer soundtrack, though ‘80s fans should be forewarned that you’ll probably never be able to hear “Sister Christian” or “Jessie’s Girl” again without thinking of a certain climactic scene.

Doc Hollywood –  I just realized that this movie is kind of like Cars, only it’s not animated and it’s set in the medical industry. Michael J. Fox stars as a hot-shot doctor who’s road-tripping to California in order to rake in the big bucks as a celebrity plastic surgeon. However, he crashes his car in South Carolina and is sentenced to doing community service at the local hospital. After getting to know the small town and its people, he realizes that perhaps his dream of life in the fast lane isn’t want he really wants.

The Upside of Anger – And finally, if you’re in the mood for a star-studded romantic dramedy, this one features Kevin Costner and Joan Allen (who’s also in Pleasantville) as will-they-or-won’t-they friends navigating the ups and downs of relationships with family and friends. Allen’s character’s four daughters are played by Keri Russell, Alicia Witt, Evan Rachel Wood and Erika Christensen. Talk about one talented (fictional) family!
