Bye-Bye, May 2022. Hello, New Movies!

And just like that, summer is upon us. My kids are out of school in a few weeks, our calendar is already packed with my son’s baseball tournaments, we’ve got concert-festival plans and beach trips in the works, and—yippee!

But before we close out spring entirely, I wanted to highlight some of the new movies we’ve got at the Box … as well as get you excited about some biggies coming in June.

Right now you can rent:

The Batman – Though Doctor Strange is sneaking up behind the Caped Crusader mighty quick, right now director and co-writer Matt Reeves’ take on Bruce Wayne and his alter ego is still the biggest movie of the year. Starring Robert Pattinson in the title role and Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, the story focuses on our heroes’ attempts to stop a serial killer who’s taking out Gotham City’s elite one by one.

Dog – Channing Tatum gets upstaged by his co-star for once! But only because his co-star is not human. Instead, it’s an adorable Belgian Shepherd named Lulu. Tatum plays a frustrated Army Ranger who must take Lulu to her previous owner—and his commander’s—funeral via a road trip across the country. Tatum co-directed with his good friend and producing partner Reid Carolin, and with both critics and audiences loving Dog, I’d say it was a triumphant directing debut for them both!

The Outfit – The fabulous Mark Rylance plays Leonard, a Chicago tailor (or, “cutter” if you want to be all fancy about it) whose clients are all really, really bad guys. As in, they’re mobsters. One night, Leonard finds himself in the middle of their drama, and what results is a story with so many layers, twists and turns that your brain will hurt. But in a good, satisfying way, I promise.

Umma – You know that me no likey the scary movies. But if you’re up for some psychological horror, then don’t miss Sandra Oh as a mom who lives with her young daughter on a remote farm that’s terrorized by some sort of supernatural being. (WHY DOESN’T SHE JUST IMMEDIATELY MOVE, I SAY?!?!)

Uncharted – Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland star as a pair of crafty fortune hunters who set off on an around-the-world pursuit to find the Magellan expedition’s fabled $5 billion treasure from the 1500s before a corrupt billionaire (played by Antonio Banderas) beats them to it.

And then in June, get ready for my two favorite movies of the year so far: Everything Everywhere All at Once, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Oh, and a little indie called Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will hit the Box, too (along with many other movies).

Hope you’ve had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Here’s to a wonderful Summer 2022!
