Does anyone else (or their kids) get completely tired out when the seasons change and the temperatures drop? That’s what’s happening at my house right now. I passed out on the hard wood floor last night in the middle of an Uno game with my daughter, no lie. I was just. That. Tired.

Sometimes you just gotta throw in the towel—or rather exchange that towel for a huge comfy blanket—and snuggle down with the fam for a fall movie night. Take a breather before the mayhem of Halloween is upon us.

Here are a few family-friendly movies I’d recommend.

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On – In this sweet, sweet film that’s part animation, part live-action and part stop-motion, no one can resist cute little Marcel (Jenny Slate)—a one-inch-tall shell who finds online fame after an Airbnb guest posts a video of him. Can his new fans help reunite Marcel and his grandma Connie (Isabella Rossellini) with their long-lost family?

DC League of Super-Pets – Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart lead the voice cast of this animated film about the Justice League’s (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern) pets. I definitely prefer these furry heroes to the real ones!

Minions: The Rise of Gru – You know you want to find out how Gru (Steve Carell) came to meet the little yellow guys in the first place, right? That’s what this prequel will reveal. Or you could make a whole weekend of it and watch the entire 5-Minions Movie Collection with your fam.

Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank – A bunch of kitties are about to be kicked out of their town unless they shove aside their pride and accept help from a bumbling beagle (Michael Cera) who agrees to protect them.

Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! – Scoob and the gang are back to doing what they do best: solving mysteries. But this time they’re seeing double! That’s right, there appear to be other versions of not only themselves running around, but also several replicas of the bad guys they’ve caught in the past! Scooby-Dooby-Doo, where’s the REAL you?

Guardians of Time – The four cousins in this movie get to live out the fantasy I always had when I was younger: they find a secret passage to another world… IN THEIR OWN HOUSE. But unfortunately for them, once they pass through to the Kingdom of Keoherus, they find themselves trapped. Bravery and friendship must save the day and get them home.

Top Gun: Maverick – My 10.5-year-old son has watched this movie twice and has declared it his favorite of all time. He’s seen the original as well and thought it was “too slow” (I also think that he wasn’t the biggest fan of the kissy-kissy scenes, let’s be real). But this excellent sequel is nonstop action and light on the romance. That’s the sweet spot for TWEENS.
