Zoe Saldaña is celebrating her 44th birthday today — but she has a lot more to celebrate as well. Like starring in three hugely successful sci-fi franchises: as Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, Uhura in Star Trek and Neytiri in Avatar. If that weren’t enough, she is the ONLY person in Hollywood — male or female — to have starred in three of the five highest-grossing films of all time: Avatar, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
But Saldaña’s career isn’t only a sci-fi success story. She’s been in everything from teen dramedies like 2003’s Drumline, to action films like The Losers and Colombiana, to romantic dramas like The Words, to intense dramas including Out of the Furnace (streaming free on redbox.com this month!) and Live by Night.
But that’s not all! There’s also biopics like Nina, and voice work in My Little Pony: The Movie. As such, she’s one of just two actresses to make the top-ten list of highest-grossing movie stars … the other being Scarlett Johannsson. Saldaña’s movies have even grossed more than Chris Pratt’s — take that, Star Lord!
This year is going to be another big one for Zoe. In November you can see her in David O. Russell’s star-studded 1930s period piece Amsterdam, alongside … pretty much everyone. Seriously, the cast spans from Christian Bale to Chris Rock to Taylor Swift?!? Color me intrigued.
And then of course is the long-awaited release of Avatar: Way of the Water this December, with Avatar 3 due out in 2024. And in case you hadn’t heard, they’re also planning on two more Avatar films, scheduled for late December in both 2026 and 2028. Geez! If I were Zoe I would take a dang break for my birthday and just let that cash roll in already!
Happy birthday, Zoe!
