Thanksgiving may still be a few weeks away, but just like you have to plan out your holiday dinner feast, you’ll need to prepare for how to use the extra time your kids are home from school. Mine are off Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving week, so I’m already figuring out what movies I can put on for them while my husband and I are in the kitchen, as well as what movies we can watch together after we’ve all had our fill of pumpkin and apple pie (with whipped cream, duh).
Here are 5 solid options that are in the Box or streaming through Redbox On Demand. In fact, 3 of them are streaming FREE at Redbox all of November!
PAW Patrol: The Movie – There was a time not too long ago when I couldn’t imagine Chase, Rocky, Zuma, Skye, Rubble, Marshall and their human leader Ryder not being a part of my daily life. But now I just had to look up some of the Paw Patrol doggies’ names! If you have kids on the younger side, you’ve likely already seen this movie with them. But if you have young kids, you also know they have no qualms about watching the same thing again and again and again and again. Put this one on and go make yourself some eggnog.
The Muppets Take Manhattan – My kids have now moved onto being able to understand some of the Muppets’ cynical and clever humor. This movie, where the gang runs around in Manhattan while Kermit tries to land them a spot on Broadway, is not only a high-energy blast, but it’s also streaming FREE at Redbox all month.
The Next Karate Kid – … And so is this one! That’s right, this fourth movie in the original Karate Kid franchise is streaming free at Redbox right now. Pat Morita returns as the ever-patient karate mentor Mr. Miyagi, and this time he’s helping a troubled teenage girl (a young Hilary Swank!) stand up for herself—and find herself.
Jungle Cruise – There are some pretty scary bad guys in this one, so I wouldn’t recommend it for those with younger kids. But for those who know their kids can handle it, they’ll be in for a treat watching Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt as a mismatched duo who venture deep into Brazil’s Amazon jungle via rickety riverboat while searching for the mythical Tree of Life.
Real Genius – See Val Kilmer in all his ‘80s glory in this comedy about a super-smart college student recruited to build space lasers (for a nefarious purpose he’s unaware of). This one has lots of questionable ‘80s humor, so it’s probably best suited for families with teenagers. And since those teenagers will likely eat you out of house and home with their appetites during Thanksgiving break, it’s all the better that Real Genius is streaming free on Redbox this month!
Here’s wishing you and yours a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving break!
