While we wait for the world to return to some semblance of normalcy, Hollywood has continued to crank out new movies to keep us entertained. Here’s the latest batch that should be on your radar. While all of these movies are available on Redbox On Demand right now, many will be coming to the Box soon, too, so be sure to put them on your Wish List on Redbox.com if you’re interested!
The Courier – One of the best movies of the year so far is also based on a true story. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as a British businessman who’s convinced to become a spy by both the CIA (specifically an operative played by Rachel Brosnahan) and the MI-6 in the UK in order to collect intel from a Soviet spy and prevent a nuclear disaster during the Cuban Missile Crisis. You’ll be on the edge of your seat the whole time!
Vanquish – The most disturbing thing about this thriller is that Morgan Freeman plays the VILLIAN in it. What?!?! I feel like the very fabric of reality is being unraveled! But it’s the truth: Freeman not only plays a retired cop who becomes a kidnapper, but his character also then threatens the kidnapped girl’s mother (Ruby Rose) and forces her to pick up illegal money drops from his network of gambling and drug rings. Thankfully we can wash this nastiness from our minds later this year when Freeman will be in The Hitman’s Bodyguard sequel opposite Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson.
Cosmic Sin – If you’re in the mood for a campy B-movie, look no further. The year is 2524, and humankind has been up in space for 400 years. But to no one’s surprise, they still can’t live in peace with each other and have broken off into factions living on different planets, in addition to Earth. But what’s the one thing that can unite us? ALIENS! Bruce Willis plays a retired general who needs to get in the saddle again when aliens attack soldiers on a remote planet.
Nobody – If you’re a fan of Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul — or even if you’ve never watched either of those acclaimed TV series (Redbox has season one of both… hint, hint) — you won’t want to miss Bob Odenkirk as a frustrated husband and father Hutch Mansell, a “nobody” who suffers one too many indignities. After he and his family are held at gunpoint by home invaders, whom Hutch lets escape, something breaks open inside of him that leads him on a violent quest for revenge. See why both critics and moviegoers are raving about this one!
Tom & Jerry – And of course we need to have a little something for the kids as well. The popular cat-and-mouse animated series from Hanna Barbera comes to life again in this movie that’s a mix of live-action and CGI. After Jerry the mouse destroys Tom the cat’s beloved piano that he’s been playing in Central Park, Tom plans to take revenge on Jerry in the high-end hotel he calls home … only Tom can never seem to break into it. Joining the animated duo as they battle it out in New York City are Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Colin Jost, Rob Delaney and Ken Jeong.
