How can you not love Emily Blunt? She’s one of those rare actresses who avoids drama, is good at everything she does, and seems like she could be your BFF in real life. Plus she has an amazing accent. Plus her marriage to John Krasinski is #goals — and I’m not saying that just because the couple brought us A Quiet Place and its sure-to-be-awesome sequel, now slated for September.
So I’m happy to wish Emily a happy 38th birthday today, and to celebrate it with her latest movie that’s now at the box: Wild Mountain Thyme. It’s the first rom-com Blunt has been in since 2012’s The Five-Year Engagement opposite Jason Segel!
In Wild Mountain Thyme, she stars alongside Jamie Dornan (who’s earning raves for stealing scenes in Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) and plays an Irish farmer who has always loved her neighbor (Dornan) despite him being completely oblivious to her feels. There’s a really weird twist to the story near the end of the film that has divided audiences and launched thousands of “think pieces” on the interwebs, but you should really just watch it for yourself and decide if you’re in the “love it” or “hate it” camp.
Or you could honor Blunt’s special day with one of her greatest hits — from The Girl on the Train, to Mary Poppins Returns, to Sunshine Cleaning, to The Devil Wears Prada. There are also my favorite movies of hers to consider: Looper, The Adjustment Bureau and Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow.
What does the future hold for Blunt? Well, the highly anticipated Jungle Cruise — in which she stars opposite Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson — is finally set to be released this July after COVID-related delays. Other than that, there’s intense speculation that Emily and her husband John are favorites to play The Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic in Disney’s upcoming Fantastic Four reboot … but there’s no official news on that just yet.
As we wait to see what’s next for Emily once the world starts returning to normal, we hope she has a safe, healthy and fantastic birthday!
