1/5/20: The Golden Globes
Ricky Gervais hosts the first award show of 2020 and takes it to new heights. His opening monologue was one that no one will ever forget. There were tears shed with both Ellen and Tom Hank’s acceptance speeches for their prestigious milestone awards in the industry.
But the REAL star of the show was the one and only, Brad Pitt. While accepting his award for Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, he had jokes for his celeb friends and thanked many people who got him there. He called out his co-star Leonardo DiCaprio (who he nicknamed LDC, which we will now be using forever) for his controversial Titanic scene. Pitt slyly told LDC that “I would have shared the raft.”, and honestly, we’ve all been thinking the same for years.
1/8/20: Meghan and Harry Are Stepping Back From Their Royal Duties
It might not be the craziest of news, because every royal movie could have predicted this one. Boy meets girl, girl falls in love, they wed, they have a baby (BTW, the cutest baby ever) AND then ditch the royal life to live without the spotlight. I one day wish to find the courage they have to walk away from that beautiful palace, but I get it.
But HEY, Mia Thermopolis wasn’t ready for the royal life as Princess of Genovia at first either and wasn’t afraid to tell the world. But back to where I said I saw this coming, insert The Prince & Me. Not to spoil the movie or anything, but Paige (Julia Stiles) and King Edvard (Luke Mably) set on to create a life where they both chase their dreams. Our eyes will be peeled on how this new life choice ends up for Meghan and Harry!
1/9/20: Kim Kardashian Takes Us On A Fridge Tour
Nine days in to 2020 and there’s already been a Kardashian splash in the social media world. The social world can be harsh and cruel and this was no different. Critics were coming for Kim saying that she didn’t have enough food in her fridge and that they were concerned for her kids. In a Kardashian-West plot twist, she took to Instagram and gave the world a tour of her many (yes, I mean MANY) pantries, refrigerators, and freezers that are fully stocked with organic foods for her and the family. The media world warriors should just stop coming for her in 2020, because she’s never one to back down from a fight.
Did everyone REALLY think she had no food in the house? That seems so dramatic. C’mon she and Kanye are living in the biggest house so you know that there’s an amazing kitchen and storage to follow. There’s no way that anyone thought they were living like Aladdin where they were going places to steal food because they didn’t have any. Nope, they’re out here feasting like they did in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone!
Weekly Movie Round-up
AT THE THEATERS:
The Grudge – In this newly released horror film, a detective investigates a murder scene that has some connection to a previous case. Anyone that enters the haunted house gets a curse passed along to them. Now, I’m not one to watch scary movies in the theater (basically because I need a hand to hold and a blanket to cover my face) but this one is a MUST see! Just let me know how it goes so I can mentally prepare myself when it comes to Redbox.
Joker – This show stopping performance by Joaquin Phoenix has Arthur Fleck turning into the Joker and creating havoc on Gotham City. The Joker had an AMAZING night at the Golden Globes taking home 2 awards! We’ve seen mixed reviews on this one, but for me, I can’t stop recommending that everyone needs to see this movie at least once! Joaquin’s role in this is one of his best and you can catch this one at the Box and On Demand!
