Ah, for everyone I tricked into thinking Kenneth Branagh (appearing this weekend as the bad guy in Pirate Radio), John Cleese, and Helena Bonham Carter were in a Harry Potter film together (as some of you pointed out, while all appear in the series, never in the same film) there were some who thought the quiz was too easy. Well, it's hard making the Tuesday Threes hard, since, ahem, there are so many methods close at hand to easily look them up. And if you want to be challenged, check back here in a few hours for the Close-up Poster contests--those are always much more difficult (and harder to look up).
This time out Nicol was our first-place winner and new owner of a homemade construction-paper medal. Andrea was second, with Richie Rich in third. Well done, all!
If you're still not sure what film featured all three actors, just charge up the ol' Inviso-Text!
Yes, it was Branagh's 1994 version of Frankenstein (produced by Francis Ford Coppola as a sort of companion piece to his 1992 Dracula). Branagh played Victor Frankenstein, Robert De Niro was the creature, and Helena Bonham Carter played Victor's ill-fated fiance, Elizabeth. John Cleese was the professor who encouraged Victor in his radical experiments.
Branagh's Frankenstein is a mixed bag, but I tend to like it--I used to show it to high school English students when we'd study Romantic poetry, as the film's rich visual style does a good job of capturing the bold (and bloody...and slightly mad) aesthetic of the Romantic movement. (It's also the film that brought Branagh and Emma Thompson's marriage to an end, as the director-star fell for Carter during shooting and ended up dating her for five years.)
