I want to see this movie really bad and so does my friend. I know it's available to see in the theatres. I will see it in the theatre probably or just wait for rent. I can't wait.

Great minds think alike! I blogged about 2012 in a similar vein when the preview came out: http://spikenesmith.blogspot.com/2008/12/gonzo-hollywood.html

Incidentally, this line, "like a pre-teen mainlining pixie-stix in your living room, 2012 jibber-jabbers on about an hour too long", is why you're this century's Ebert. Really.

lost you after mention of Joey Chitwood! And I was so lookinfing forward to Cusack's performance. First things first, Bumps!

Why are there no Hardee's in the Chicagoland area? I'd like to try a Monster Thickburger now. =(

Great review, Locke! You need yourself an hour long TV movie review show. A la MST3K style.

Going to see the movie today!

Saw the movie. Funny how they showed the destruction of numerous religious symbols, except that of Islam (heard they might have upset a few people).
Also funny how they decided to use the Bible's them of the destruction of the earth, and build 'arks' in order to save mankind.
Overall a very good action movie, Woody Harrelson did a great job in his part - that would be the way I would've wanted to go!

"right around the time of some ancient doomsday prediction from the Wayans"

Would that be Damon, Marlon, or Shawn?

The 2012 predictions and the legends of a common world civilization in 10,000BC have both come into play as possible back-stories behind the tale of the TV show Lost that I watch and study off-shot topics from.

Both Legends are very interesting and exciting in the true telling of them, and great movies could be made of both. History Channel had dealt with both in interesting ways.

Unfortunately, these producers have mangled both into stupid, dim-witted, bad CGI fests, like they did Godzilla. Now no-one will make a good version of these anytime soon. What a shame!

Enjoyed to movie, lots of action and the lenght did not seem as long as it was. Got you thinking, could this really happen? Never can tell

I saw it last week-end....very disappointed.....oh well!

too much humor...yes, woody was awesome!!

When did the Wayans Brothers become such wise men to tell us the world was going to end on Dec.12,2012 ???

I think the writer mispelled Mayans and wrote in Wayans!!!

LMFAO

Yes, given the reverent, level-headed tone of my review, I can't BELIEVE I mistook the Wayans for the Mayans... ;)

At least it got a laugh--though AT me, not as the intended WITH me. But I'll take 'em where ever I can get 'em :)

Some other "errors" you might notice out there:

-- Chevy Chase is not really that clumsy.

-- Dan Whitney's name is not Larry and he is not employed as a cable installer.

-- Clown feet are not actually that big.

-- The first baseman's name is NOT "Who."
