Oh Tuesday Threes winners, did you think I had forgotten you?
First off, a tip of the cap to the very noble gesture by Millar74 to hold off a day before answering, in order--after her Threes dominance of late--to give others a chance. An officer and a lady, that Millar is.
Which in no ways diminishes the win by Donna! Donna, I don't have my Threes chart handy (or, really, updated in a few months), have you won Threes before? It looks like you were a runner-up recently, and got part of the Freeze Frame Threes correct last weekend--any flat out wins? Anyway, congrats, Donna, the construction-paper medal is yours! Runners up were Noel and Samantha.
The question was, what film featured Johnny Depp (appearing now in Public Enemies, of course), Forest Whitaker, and Kevin Dillon? (Yonne noted, "one of the only good roles Kevin Dillon has ever had." Ooooh, Yonne, don't let Johnny Drama hear you say that! Viking Quest!!!!!)
For the answer, simply lock and load your Inviso-Text!
Yes, of course it was Platoon, Oliver Stone's 1986 semi-autobiographical Vietnam tale. (I'm still chuckling at the homage to the Death of Elias (Willem Dafoe) that Michael Bay laid down in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.)
Depp played Lerner, the baby-faced recruit who's wounded during the ambush firefight about halfway through. He'd made his feature film debut a couple years earlier as the doomed boyfriend in the original Nightmare on Elm Street.
Whitaker was the gentle giant Big Harold, who gets his leg blown off in the same scene. Whitaker had been showing up in films for several years prior to Platoon, including playing football star Charles Jefferson in Fast Times at Ridgemont High in 1982.
But ironically it's Dillon, best known at the time as "Matt's Brother," who has the largest role of the three. In his second feature film role (Heaven Help Us had been a year earlier), Dillon plays the kinda sociopathic Bunny, a devotee of Barnes (Tom Berenger) who beats the villager to death in cold blood and is later killed in the climatic battle.
Woo-hoo!
You're right, this is my first win. Thanks!

I think you meant "Kevin Dillon, best known at the time as 'Matt's Brother'"

Right-o, Joules! Thanks! The cold meds were starting to kick in hard about that point... though "Kevin, better known as 'Kevin's Brother'" has a nice sort of Zen quality to it...
