Looking forward to this one, will try to watch it this weekend.

this movie so sucked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i want my dollar back. you took my time so at least give my money back.

I think this movie was good but ... as a believer in God as our cerator it kinda made me a lil upset but again it is just a movie lol

SUCKED!!!!!!!! Dont waste your time

This movie had a good beginning but fell short in the end. Sure watch it if you want but prepare to be disappointed in the last 30 min or so..

This movie was terrible.

I loved this movie, and seeing the comments above, I am wondering if I was just starved for a good movie, but I was impressed. I loved it!

I'll tell you what suck, " People" The movie is great. The SFX are the best. After all we don't now anything about anything. " A must see movie "

Maybe the people who say this movie sucked didn't understand it. It was amazing! I loved that they didn't wrap the story up in a great big bow and save the world. That's reality. Sometimes it just doesn't work out... TWO THUMBS WAY UP!!

This movie sucked like a black hole... nothing redeeming in it. I want my $1 and my 2 hours back! Don't waste either on this wreck. No mystery. Nothing to explain why certain kids were "chosen" and nothing that remotely made any sense... just make it "aliens" so we don't have to explain. Forget religion, this wasn't even science fiction really... more like alien magic act.

Loved the movie...great story line, had something for everyone. Mystery, drama, horror, sci-fi. Had human factor....father/son dynamics, dealing with loss of spouse/parent...and in then end the whole what would you do??? question...LOVED IT!!!

This was a decent flick, plenty of suspense and good action. The ending was over the top, but I was frankly glad to see somebody with the guts to actually shoot this movie. Over the top is sometimes fantastic.

Just watched it, it was a little scary, a little crazy and a lot of weird...But I liked it! I have to agree that the ending was left a little short, but it could have a sequel??? It's worth a dollar :)

I love Nicholas Cage in anything he stars in. The movie had a nice theme but evolved into a bit far fetched. Being a beliver in christ i liked the plot but found it hard to believe in the end. But i would say it was a good movie over all and would recommend it to others.

For those who think the movie didn't make sense, I suggest you read the Holy Bible. Though this movie is not a religious movie, an understanding of biblical events and prophesy make this movie totally understandable.

I think where the movie falls short is in explaining why there is still hope in the end. It tried, but tried too hard also to keep God out of the film.

For anyone who has a basic understanding of the Holy Bible, this movie is a must see....just remember it is fiction and takes quite a few liberties in an effort to disguise its prophetic basis. Those looking for a movie where mankind is its own salvation will be disappointed.

Knowing is a great movie, so much so we rented it twice. With all that is going on in the world, global warming etc., it may just make sense this is how everything will turn out. It IS possible. Read the Bible, the earth will be destroyed by fire. If those of you that said it was a horrible film, waste of time, etc., you better wake up. Watch the news, learn about science. Learn something other than your narrow minded view of what you think is entertainment.

Great movie.

I THOUGHT THIS MOVIE WAS GOOD. I ENJOYED IT ALOT.
AGAIN AS POSTED BY annette prewett For anyone who has a basic understanding of the Holy Bible, BUT jusT remember it is fiction and takes quite a few liberties in an effort to disguise its prophetic basis. Those looking for a movie where mankind is its own salvation will be disappointed.

IF YOU DID NOT UNDERSTAND THE MOVIE READ YOUR BIBLE.

From the descriptions I read I thought that the movie was about a list that predicted future events that would then be used to help avert them. In reality the page of numbers had nothing to do with the movie. The only two future disasters that happened couldn't be changed. I didn't mind the whole alien thing but I really think they wasted time with the tie in to 1959. The whole purpose of knowing something is to act on it, and with him knowing the world was going to end didn't give him any advantage. Why would the aliens even bother to tell people (or just the 2 people that figured it out) the world was going to end when they were going to pick up the children themselves. I was looking forward to a neat space/time movie when all I got was apocalyptic overtones with aliens (which I don't remember reading about in the Bible, but maybe I missed something..).

Ok fire and the bible whatever. The movie still fell sooooooooooo short and made NO sense either way. But come on "chosen" crap and "white" bunnies???????!!!!!! Puulease stop insulting the audience intelligence (or lack of).

I enjoyed the movie until the end. I think it was obvious throughout the movie that these "people" were aliens...but why those particular kids? Why was it so easy for Cage's character to let his son go with aliens? Just weird and dumb at the end. The Special FX were great, though.

@Laurie-

Great post. I agree completely!

I really loved this movie! I thought the effects were great and it really kept my attention. There were a few parts where I was like, "what the heck" but then it made you think and it was really enjoyable.

WARNING: SPOILERS

I went into this movie thinking I'd like it. Nicolas Cage is great at this sort of thing, and the premise appeared to be cool.

However, with the least little thought, the whole thing falls apart. Why the heck would someone send messages to a little girl to write dates on a paper so that it could be found by another little kid 50 years later so *that* kid, IF he was able to figure it out, would get picked up by a spaceship?

If that isn't the dumbest plot I've ever heard, it's pretty darn close. And what about all the other spaceships? Did all THOSE kids have the same wacky thing happen to them?

Really. If the aliens were going to come take kids, why not just COME TAKE THEM? Why cook up some goofball 50-year-in-the-making plot to reveal disasters that, in reality, have *nothing* to do with rescuing the kids?

The only cool thing I personally got out of this movie is that now I can pick up little shiny black rocks and say "oooh ... the *aliens* were here." I'm *so* glad I decided to rent it before buying it.

If you really want to enjoy something similar, but that actually MAKES SENSE, read the Dean R. Koontz book The Taking. It'll take you more than 2 hours, but it *actually* *makes* *sense*.

did not enjoy this movie. thought it was plotless, mandering, all over the place. they should have stuck with one theme and stayed there. nick cage has been very disappointing as of late. what happened to him? also, way too much given away in the trailer. i hate when they do that. and, by the way, i do know my bible very well. watch the seventh sign if you want prophetic, not this trash. and learn how to spell prophecy!

Yea, it sucked.

For the most part, I enjoyed the movie. didn't understand the significance of the black rocks, but it really does make you stop and think. The 2 bunnies and 2 kids made me think of Noah's ark. Maybe there were 2 kids from each continent put on the planet to represent all the physical differences in mankind.

My husband and I thought the movie was great - a lot better than some of the stupid movies I have wasted money on lately. You have to have an understanding of the Bible and the Book of Ezekiel to fully grasp the movie. We believed the "men" that kept appearing were not aliens but angels (they had wing-like things on their backs in the final scene) and it was not a spaceship, but a sphere like thing seen by Ezekiel in a vision. The Bible says that the earth will be destroyed by fire (sunflares) and the children were the "new earth" and were running toward the new tree of "good & evil". That's how we interpreted the movie and it definitely left us thinking.

To Lulu,

Those chosen are those that believe...

I liked it. Yes it took alot of liberties, but the overall message was true, one day we will be held accountable to what we hear and have faith in.

I don't think they really decided what kind of movie they were making? Plot ends up flying in all directions.

Only worth seeing if you liked the remake of the Day the Earth Stood Still

Maybe the kids from the 50's just weren't smart enough and the movie could of been over in ten minutes.

This movie started great and kept me in suspense for the majority of the movie ... until the last half hour (Spoiler: about the time the kids are kidnapped). Such a shame ... this was the first Nicholas Cage movie I haven't absolutely loved ...

I watched this movie the other night without having read any of the reviews. Then perusing through the "Newest Releases for Redbox," I came across the many comments pertaining to this film.

There are three ways in which to watch a movie. The first is purely visceral pleasure; the second is judgemental such as a parent would do, and the third is for critical analysis and understanding (this can include theory, metaphors, symbolism, etc.)

Although disappointed at the ending, I watched the movie from a critical stance and found many intriguing things about it. The references to the Holy Bible, the symbolism of the white rabbits all the way to the golden grains at the end right down to the mending of people in heart, body, and soul before the final destruction could easily make for a well written thesis.

At any rate, I can see how the juxtaposition of those opposed with those in favor are quite parallel. I guess there is a fine line between reality and fiction.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie. Don't take it so personal; it's just a movie!

I thought this movie stunk.

I absolutely love SiFi and I love Nicolas Cage, but I was so disappointed with this movie. Some of the acting was bad and I thought the movie was a bit fragmented. And the concept that God is really aliens???? The plot was dumb and I will repeat that I am a SiFi fan! Very disappointing.

There were some gaps in logic within the story. For instance, in major disasters like the World Trade Center disaster there is really never an exact number of casualties, but the girl supposedly foresaw an exact casualty count for each disaster.

But, in reality the number of casualties from large disasters changes by the minute. There is the number of casualties at the instant of explosion. There is the number of casualties at the collapse of the towers. There is the nyumber of casualties from the rescue. There are the people who died 20 minutes after the disaster in a hospital. There are people who died 2 hrs after the disaster. There are even people who are never accounted for at all. etc, etc. So, there is no really definitive number of casualties that would match up exactly against a newspaper headline as was proposed in the movie. And, don't forget different headlines post different casualty counts.

This may seem like a picky flaw, but one major logical misstep in the central premise of the movie can really stand out like a sore thumb.

That is just one example of a gap in logic.

But, overall the movie is strange and interesting. And, it does have that bizarre unexpected ending -- which I thought was clever and interesting in a silly way. Any movie with Nicholas Cage is going to be enjoyable if you like him. He does a really good job of making the viewer feel interested in the story in all his movies.

If you want a fully logical and well structured flawless blockbuster movie then this will disappoint you. But, if you want to spend a dollar and watch this while eating pizza and know you're seeing a ridiculous but interesting movie with an engaging lead actor that is entertaining and clever and quirky then this is worth a rental.

It's a movie, that's it, good or bad! Whether or not you liked it, you chose to watch it. Nobody put a gun to your head and said to rent this movie and watch it. If you spent your dollar to rent it, and didn't like it, then that is your fault. Don't blame Redbox, Nicolas Cage, or the production company. Maybe you should do your homework a little more and seek reviews of a film. GROW UP!!!

To Jenn.. I loved that book and I will agree it was much better than this movie.

I was disappointed with the movie, I was, like others, thinking this was a movie where Nicolas Cage was going to STOP some disasters.. although.. it does make me stop and think... I have several small and shiny black rocks....

Stunk stunk stunk and stunk.

The whole nice Aliens coming to same the last of the species was so .."oh, oh, oh...I have got to come up with an ending....uh, uh, YES...aliens come and take them away...that's it..."

This movie was so awesome.... Great effects and wild ending.. a must see!!

I really liked this movie and probably should have watched it a couple of times to understand everything. What was the purpose of the black rocks? They were in people's dead hands and on the creekbed but never figured out what they represented?

I loved the story plot, i thought it would be such a great movie from the previews. It ended up the previews left out a lot. There was a terrible ending. I just wish they did something better with the story plot. That is the last time i am going to see a movie on the opening day.

The special effects were great. The acting was ok. The plot was predictable. You could drive a bus through the holes in the plot. The ending was a disappointment. It was nothing new for anyone who has read Science Fiction for any length of time. Having the beginning set in the 50's was perfect - the whole thing was just like a 50's SciFi story.

I really enjoyed this movie. While I agree the ending was a tidy way to wrap the story up, it was still enjoyable. The special effects were very well done. I thought Cage did a great job, even though I'm not a big fan of his work.

this movie sucked!

I enjoyed the movie. I was Choked up wken He gave his boy to the aliens or whatever they were. It was nice to see that the earth wasn't saved ala Armageddon. The way the #'s played out and how he was at the crash scene was brilliant.

I actually bought it (on Blue Ray) and didn't waste my money

Movie was borderline ok. Great special effects. I've definitely seen better Cage movies. As several others have commented, movie was ok except the last 30 minutes. The very ending of the movie left me utterly OUTRAGED! God created the heavens and the earth, not aliens setting the 'chosen' in some new 'Garden of Eden' to "...go forth and replenish the earth." I will make sure I do a movie review next time BEFORE watching.

It was a good concept, but in so many movies it's almost like they can't come up with a good ending, so they just make it aliens.

This was a great movie!

To Burt:
If you are going to correct someone on mis-spelling a word (by the way, it's "meandering" not "mandering")use capitals at the beginning of your sentences, no run-on sentences, and use the word "I" when describing your thoughts.

Talked my fiance into watching this movie, i waited for it to come out and rushed home with Japanese food and drinks. What a wasteful night. I wouldve rather watched reruns of hannah montana all day. This movie made no sense and Mr Cage has lost the coolness in my eyes

My husband & myself say this is a keeper & want to buy it (hope the price comes down). We went out to see it & then rented it. It isn't saying this is how the world will end, don't you get it? It is someone with courage enough to say, "Stop, Look, Listen" but above all, if you aren't a Christian, please turn toward salvation. This is the only way anyone will be saved when the end comes. Do you have the courage to post this?

Stupid movie! Way to over exagerrated! The only plus to this movie is the special effects. And by the way, why would the world end but some are chosen to live with aliens. Just a totally screwed up movie!

The plane crash was good and the train wreck was great. I kept falling asleep during the other parts.

I watched the movie and I won't say that I liked it or didn't like it for that matter. I do believe in the Bible, and wish that if they were going to partially base this on what is in there, DON'T GO HALF WAY, GO ALL THE WAY! Don't make it seem like they are half alien, half angel. That's kind of riding the fence on your beliefs. Yes, it does say in the Bible about a wheel within a wheel. (UFOs?) A real eye opener that life is short and a look at reality. Just no one wants to face up to it. Do you really think this planet will go on forever? Pick up the Bible... You will see the end is not fun and games.

the movie started out great and really built my suspense up until about the middle and then it just got strange and frankly was just over the top. I ended up disappointed. Don't want my $ back...that's why I love the REDBOX. Saved me $4 mistake from getting it from Blockbuster. Thanks REDBOX!

I dont think they were aliens, I think they were "angels"

plane crash scene...amazing.... the end...SUCKEDDD

To Burt,IT WAS A MOVIE!!!

Save your money on this one . . . It starts out good but takes a really bad turn once the "Alien Factor" is introduced. More people were laughing at the theatre than they would of been at a comedy. Trust me save your money! Special effects are pretty good thats about it

I agree with all the above. The movie sucked big time. It started out descently but when it turned alien it really lost it. I too wanted my money back and regretted watching it. I actually fell asleep for a few seconds only to find the movie didn't get better. Save your money, save yourself, don't rent or buy it!!!

I enjoyed this movie. Actually found some of it very scary.

Yes. Some of it was ridiculous. Like what was the point of "telling" Lucinda all that info if there was nothing she could do about it?

However, what was cool is you can read the ending any way you want. They might have been "aliens." They might have been angels. The other space capsules might have contained other kids -- or they might just have been "escorts." What made it interesting is that it gave you something to think about. Who the heck knows? (I also enjoyed the end discussion of apocalyptic predictions. It's nice to know that the sun is only about half through with its "life" and has another billion years to go.)

I loved this movie. I am also a christian, but didn't feel the movie interfered with my belief. IT'S JUST A MOVIE! I felt it was entertaining, believeable, suspensful and I recommend it.

If it was not for the trailer, the movie would not make any money. The only good part in the movie was the plane crashing into the ground.

One more vote for "It sucked."
The people didn't do what most people would expect them to most of the time making their acting look very strange. Also, there wasn't a whole lot that made sense. Things don't often makes sense in real life, sure but in a movie you expect the director to explain why things happen. We live in a cause-effect universe, everything has a cause whether we see it or not and the director seemed to come from some other universe.

I wouldn't waste my time on this movie. Unless you're a big believer in aliens being the replacement of the traditional position of God.

I saw this movie in the theater. I paid more than a dollar...I thought it was a great movie. All the mysteries of the wathcers, and the numbers and John dealing with personal emotions and loss along with his son made for a great theme.
The part that got me mad was the ending. I like the ballsy way that He depicted earth's ending in a giant ball of fire. That wasn't the part that got me mad.
It was the corny alien (Angels of Mercy) and the Mother Ship (GOD) ending. Picking two children to survive the end of mankind to restart it again. Come on. God and religion was all over this movie in the long carried out ending. They could have left that out and ended the movie with John holding his family and the world scroches up around them. I still would felt good about it but that other part ticked me off.

I liked the movie... the special effects were awesome. It kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what was going to happen next. I haven't found a movie that Nicholas Cage played in that I didnt like.

This movie was Great! Woops, wrong movie. Sorry

Like some posts above I did not view the protectors as "aliens". Also, my interpretation of the end when you see multiple ships leaving Earth was a Noah's Ark reference. Two of every animal on Earth to restart somewhere else. I enjoyed the movie, and I thought Cage did a great job.

Absolutly the BEST !!!!! A must see !!

One of the best moovies ever.
It does no't matter what you belive in, it maried all quite well in a very very posible senario,
these could hapend tomorrow for real, and your big hummer wont save you.
But these is not a movie for close or narow minded people.
call it what you will,
also. A lot of times when some one says "bad movie" its realy a good one, they just did't like (depending on the movie) all the blod, or the violence, or how scared or sad they weare.
You have to realice. That is precicely what a good movie is. If it made you cry, lol or tramble, it means they did a grete jove on it, because it felt real, it made you feal part of the movie, and that is a good movie.
Knowing", scared me, made me tink, made me sad, and made me think some more, and belive it or not, it also gave me some peace.
Grete movie.

I thought the movie was good. It was a bit weird in the end. I mean, why would you be given the dates just to know you all are going to die? I think they could have had a better ending. But, for only a buck I was entertained.

I enjoyed this movie very much. If you just want to see a hero saving the earth, this won't be your movie, but if you want to see degree of reality in nature's superpower and a real hero fighting his own fears, you'll love it. So those out there who think this movie sucks, they're just not quite open minded enough to accept a change in movie plot trending.
Even if you don't like the plot, there is good special effects, good acting, great suspense, and one of the best movie endings I've seen in a long time. And yes this movie is worth watching twice or more; you'll pick up more bits and peaces that make this movie a thriller.

I thought it was a really good movie. Everyone has their own opinion. I thought the ending was a little sad, but I enjoyed it!!

I liked this movie. I liked the parallel it did with some unexplained biblical references. Specially about the space ship and the drawing that is described in the bible. Added a neat sub line to the movie.

why is it i couldn't fine how long the movie was by looking at the write-up?

Michael Norris, you can find running times for films on the redbox site, linked to from the film's title in the first paragraph (Knowing is a little over 2 hours)

For all bloggers that are upset at the waste of time and want thier $1 back, try getting it from the guy who held a gun to your head to rent this movie. I understand that sometimes a movie is so bad (and I am not opinionizing about this one here) that a person may feel cheated and want a refund. (I felt that same way myself after seeing Ricky Bobby.) Still, that is the risk you take when you don't read the spoilers. Going into the movie not really knowing where it will take you has the inherent risk of possibly disappointing you. If you are one who tends to scream bloody murder when you are disappointed by a movie, maybe you should wait until it's on TBS so all you wasted was time. That way you can use your buck to buy an asprin to help you get over it.

I saw this film Knowing like 2-4 months ago, my family rented it at Blockbuster, it when my family didn't know about Redbox but we know about Redbox.

This movie awesome, it's great and thrilling. It's a suspense but a little scary. It would be a horror movie a little bit. I enjoyed it also and my family did too.

Nicholas Cage did great, he found the seriousness and the sci-fi part of the film.

The ending was unexpected, aliens that helped the children in the film to go to a better place up in another planet and then they arrive on Earth again in the present, that was totally unexpected because the whole film scenario was figuring out mystery numbers that this student fifty years ago wrote in class. The aliens were creepy.

The violence was mild-moderate range, it was little gory and the aliens were creepy and scary. The rating PG-13 for disaster sequences, disturbing images and brief strong language was just right. There was totally disturbing images, the disturbing images were throughout the film. I would say it should get re-rated an R because little kids like 4-11 shouldn't watch this film, it's too scary and this film is meant for mature audiences so I would say 12+ should watch it. This film gave me nightmare, the night that I watched it.

The acting was great and the suspense did it, it kept you watching.

It's worth the money to rent and buy it on DVD. I was going to see this in the theatre and I didn't because I was too busy renting and seeing other films in the theatre so at least I rented it. My family are moviegoers and Redbox users, this film amazed me.

I still think Julie & Julia and The Time Traveler's Wife is better than this one, no offense to this film Knowing. I've seen better alien movies. Otherwise, this film was great.

Great post, Redbox\Redblog! :)

Nicolas, what gives. This movie feels like I have seen it before. Several times so why would I want to come see this one. Plus this movie looks like a spin off of the crap you have made in the past.

Come on Nicolas, you can do better. Get away from this nonsense. Go back to Raising Arizona if you must.
