A promising trailer for Extract, featuring my #1 Celebrity Crush, Jason Bateman, and a long-haired, honest-to-God funny Ben Affleck, that's what.
Extract will be the third feature film from writer/director Mike Judge... his first being Office Space (one of my favorites) and his second being Idiocracy (which I have yet to see, but intend to catch soon as it has inspired somewhat of a cult following). And yes, he's the same Mike Judge behind MTV's mid-'90s hit, Beavis & Butt-head, and the still-going-strong animated FOX series, King of the Hill.
On top of the fact that this story of a disgruntled factory manager stars Bateman and Affleck, it also has a top-notch roster of supporting players, including J.K. Simmons (the Spider-Man franchise, Juno, I Love You, Man), Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live, Adventureland) and Mila Kunis (That 70's Show, Forgetting Sarah Marshall), among others. You might therefore assume that Extract is pretty much destined for success... but then you'd be giving the suits in Hollywood a little too much credit. Currently the film is scheduled for a limited release on September 4, and therefore many fans of Judge's work are afraid that it will suffer from lack of exposure and promotion (just like Idiocracy did).
I'm going to choose to remain hopeful about this one, though... supposedly it will expand into more cities and theaters after Labor Day weekend, and so there's reason to believe that -- even if Miramax doesn't lend the film a lot of support -- positive word-of-mouth will give Bateman's exasperated character something to smile about.
wow. this looks awesome. i've never been a big fan of mila kunis, but she actually looks really good in this one.
