When I saw that Angel Has Fallen was hitting the Box and Redbox on Demand today, I was going to do a little write-up about the films that critics hate and audiences love starring Gerard Butler as US Secret Service agent Mike Banning. But then I realized that there’s a freakishly high number of movies at the Box with the word “Fallen” in them, so I can’t not bring this random bit of trivia to your attention.

Here are just a few of those movies, ranging from little-known indies to mega blockbusters:

Fallen – This is a supernatural crime thriller from 1998 starring Denzel Washington and John Goodman (among many other familiar faces) as detectives who think a serial killer has been caught … until copycat murders start popping up, making them second-guess whether or not they got the right man.

Fallen Stars – This sweet 2017 indie starring Michelle Ang and Ryan O’Nan is about an unexpected friendship that develops between a burnt-out thirtysomething bartender and a socially awkward millennial.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – This second film in the Transformers franchise was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Man, I hated this one. That is all.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – Buh-bye, Isla Nublar. In this fifth Jurassic movie, the iconic island where dinosaurs roam is destroyed by a volcanic eruption, and raptor wrangler Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and newly minted dino-rights activist Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) try to help save the beasts from a second extinction.

And then of course you have the Fallen trilogy:

Olympus Has Fallen – In this first installment, the White House is attacked by North Korean guerilla fighters and disgraced Agent Banning gets a chance to restore his rep by saving the president (Aaron Eckhart).

London Has Fallen – Then the action moves to Europe, where Banning must now save the president again after he learns of a planned terrorist attack.

Angel Has Fallen – Since no good deed goes unpunished, now Banning has to clear his name after being framed for an attack on the new president (Morgan Freeman). This guy just can’t catch a break!

It was just announced this month that Butler has signed on for at least three more Fallen films, and the company behind the franchise has plans to expand into several TV markets around the world and produce local-language spin-offs. So don’t expect an end to the “Fallen” trend any time soon!
