July is almost upon us, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s my favorite month because: 1) I love summer, 2) we celebrate my daughter’s birthday, 3) I get to go be among “my people” at Comic-Con in San Diego, 4) my kids are just out of school and no one’s driving each other up the wall yet, and 4) have I ever mentioned on this site that I love warm weather and HATE cold weather? (Yes, yes I have. Approximately 1,496 times.)

July is also a great movie month, both in theaters and at Redbox. Just take a look at our list below and you’ll see what I mean! But first, here are three (very different) movies that I wanted to highlight so that you’re sure to consider them for your summertime viewing pleasure.

Rampage – Nothing screams ‘MERICA!!!! louder than a movie based on an ‘80s video game that depicts one of our country’s finest cities being destroyed by three gigantic mutant beasts while Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson tries to save everyone in their path. So what I’m saying is, this would be the perfect movie to watch on the 4th of July.

A Quiet Place – On the polar opposite end of the burst-eardrums-o-meter is the only nearly silent film you’re going to watch (and love) this year. John Krasinski directs and stars alongside his real-life wife Emily Blunt in this story about a family trying to survive an alien invasion. And since these aliens can’t see but they CAN hear — very, very, very well — it’s the couple’s never-ending duty to keep their three young children from making any noise as they move from place to place in search of food, shelter and other humans. Basically it’s any parent’s worst nightmare come true, because lord knows my kids are literally never, EVER quiet. We’d be alien chow for sure.

Blockers – We’ve made it halfway through the year, so perhaps all you really want to do is have a good laugh and forget about the world for a while. If so, then this equal parts hilarious and sweet tale of overprotective parents trying to stop their teenagers from doing what teenagers tend to do after prom is for you.
