“Wait, isn’t it just the ‘MTV Movie Awards’?”

If that’s the first thing you thought when reading the title of this post, you’re not alone. MTV’s annual celebration of Hollywood was in fact solely devoted to movies from 1992 up until last year, when they expanded it to add in TV shows — while also doing away with gender-based awards. That’s right, actors and actresses compete against each other in every category now! What’s more, movie stars and TV stars compete against each other for most awards as well.

As a longtime fan of the event, I have to admit that I enjoy how the race for the golden popcorn statue is now much less predictable across the board.

Because it’s MTV, it’s always a wilder broadcast than anything on network television, and with breakout comedian Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) presiding over the ceremony on Monday night (June 18, 9 p.m. ET on MTV), I think it’s fair to say that hilarity WILL ensue.

My prediction is that Black Panther (or a cast member of Black Panther) wins in every category it’s in the running for, as it leads the field with 7 nominations. For the remaining categories, I’m predicting Stranger Things for Best Kiss, Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place) for Most Frightened Performance, and Tiffany Haddish for both Best Comedic Performance and Scene Stealer in Girls Trip.

Here are some of the major categories:
