I officially feel like a broken record because for the past few months, whenever I write about what’s coming to Redbox in the near future, I also bemoan the fact that it’s still not consistently warm here in Chicago, and MAYBE JUST MAYBE the next month will bring some relief.

But yet here I am on a crisp mid-May afternoon, bitter about the fact that the heat is still kicking on in my house and I still need to wear my coat outside. Once Coming to the Box and On Demand in Junagain, only movies can provide the kind of escapism I need. Because if we can’t look forward to the certainty of warm weather in June, at least we can look forward to these movies…

Tomb Raider – Aw, yeah. Take me away to a hot and mysterious island in the Pacific and bring on one sweaty and ripped Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander), baby! This reboot will surely cure anyone who’s suffering from the Extended Winter Blues because we get to see Lara kick butt while trying to solve a mystery behind her father’s death and his life’s work. The always-excellent Walton Goggins plays the bad guy, so you know you’re in for a wild ride.

A Wrinkle in Time – In this star-studded adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s 1962 children’s book, the young Meg Murry (Storm Reid) must travel through the universe — with the help of three unusual and powerful strangers (played by Oprah, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling) — to find her missing astrophysicist father (Chris Pine). Its eye-popping visuals and empowering message make it a great pick for anyone who’ll be enjoying movie night with tweens or teens.

Sherlock Gnomes – In this sequel to 2011’s very cute Gnomeo & Juliet, our favorite star-crossed couple (voiced once again by James McAvoy and Emily Blunt) enlists the help of Sherlock Gnomes (Johnny Depp) to help them find all of their fellow garden friends. They’re out of the backyard and running loose around London, which makes for a ton of family-friendly fun.
