As I was preparing to write this post I realized that there might be some younger movie fans out there who don’t realize that Liam Neeson is an Oscar-nominated actor (for his leading role in Schindler’s List) who’s starred in everything from beloved rom-coms (hellllooooo, Love Actually!) to ‘80s TV series adaptions (The A-Team) to biopics (Michael Collins, Kinsey).

Meaning, he’s much much more than just a guy who fights stuff. Although no one can deny that ever since making the world aware of his “very particular set of skills” in 2008’s Taken (and Taken 2 … and Tak3n), he’s carved out quite the movie niche for himself.

So in celebration of his latest thriller, The Commuter — where he fights traffic (KIDDING!) — coming to Redbox, here are 5 of the most intimidating foes Liam Neeson has fought.

Batman – That’s right, Batman. Or have you forgotten that Neeson played Ra’s al Ghul — the baddie who originally set the Dark Knight on his vigilante path — in Batman Begins?

Darth Maul – Yep, our favorite Irish actor took on the infamous Sith Lord in Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

A murderous texter – In Non-Stop, Neeson must take a life-or-death situation into his own hands on a flight where a mystery assailant threatens to kill one passenger every 20 minutes unless $150 million is transferred to their bank account.

Javert; the overwhelming cruelness of mankind – As the protagonist Jean Valjean in 1998’s adaptation of the musical Les Misérables, Neeson spends a lifetime outrunning and outsmarting the evil Inspector Javert, while also surviving the overall misery of France in the early 1800s.

Wolves – This one’s my favorite because seriously who else would have the guts to go up against a pack of wolves when their plane crashes in the Alaskan wilderness? Neeson’s like “HOLD MY BEER I GOT THIS” in The Grey.

There are soooo many more things Neeson has fought in his illustrious career to date. What are your favorites? You can refresh your memory by looking at all of his Redbox movies here.
