What to Rent This Weekend

It’s time for another member of the Redbox team to share his thoughts on a movie you should consider checking out. Let’s give a warm welcome to Matt, shall we?

Name: Matt Gosney

Redbox Role: I work as a Field Support Representative II. I monitor and fix Redbox kiosks in my area. I also assist in achieving our weekly merchandising goals.

Matt’s Pick: Paranormal Activity 3

My movie pick is Paranormal Activity 3. The movie is represented as nonfiction, as if the tapes were found at a later date. The cast isn’t filled with familiar movie stars like most of the new releases at Redbox—seeing Tom Hanks or Sandra Bullock being tormented by a ghost couldn’t easily be passed off as nonfiction.

All three of the Paranormal Activity movies are filmed by the characters themselves once strange things start happening to them around their homes. The first two movies are based on two sisters and their families that are being revisited by a ghost/demon that haunted them when they were just little girls. So the great thing about Paranormal Activity 3 is that it is actually a prequel to the first two movies. Set back in the late 1980s, the two sisters live with their mom and a new boyfriend who is a wedding videographer. He captures all of the eerie encounters on his video camera (which is the size of a microwave oven . . . man, I miss the ’80s).

Anyways, in my opinion the third installment of this series really complemented the first two. It even made me go back and re-watch 1 and 2. I recently heard they have set a release date for the fourth movie. Not sure what direction they could take the plot next, but I’m sure I’ll be excited to see it.

Thanks for the suggestion, Matt!

Did he convince you, or are you too much of a scaredy-cat to check out his pick?

If you’re feeling brave, reserve a copy of Paranormal Activity 3 (on DVD or Blu-ray™) tonight!

(The original film and Paranormal Activity 2 are still available to rent in some areas, too.)
