Movie Trailer: Happy Feet Two

The holidays are just around the corner, and you know what that means: lots of singing and dancing animated animals! I’m going to spare you (and Locke) the preview of Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (for now) and instead focus on a bunch of creatures whose return to the big screen is actually quite welcome. I’m talking about the penguins of Happy Feet, who are back in theaters as of today (Novemburr 18, as the posters so cleverly point out) with Happy Feet Two:

My man Frodo (Elijah Wood for you non-LOTR geeks) and Robin Williams are back in their voice roles from the original, with director George Miller returning for the sequel as well. And as you saw from the trailer, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon are bringing the two teeny krill to life, in addition to Pink, Hugo Weaving, Hank Azaria and Sofia Vergara becoming penguin-ized.

The big question is whether or not Happy Feet Two will be as successful as its predecessor, which opened at #1 with $41 million (and went on to gross $384 million worldwide) exactly five years ago. It wasn’t up against Twilight back in those days, though! What’s more, Puss in Boots has been capturing family audiences for the past few weeks, and then next week there’s not one, not two, but THREE kid-friendly wide releases hitting cineplexes near you: The Muppets, Arthur Christmas and Hugo. So those Antarctic cuties have their work cut out for them, as this weekend is certainly their best shot at dominating ticket sales from their target demographic for a couple of days.

I’ll give it a chance on rent however Puss in Boots sounds better over Thanksgiving.

But I really can’t wait to see The Twilight Saga this week! If Stephanie Meyer writes more books on vampires, more movies will be made about Bella and Edward…if only it has the strength to become the next Harry Potter.
