She’s brought life into this world, she’s won an Oscar, and she currently has six films out in theaters/recently released on DVD — can you top Natalie Portman’s über-productive 2011? All this and it’s only June… AND she’s only 30! I guess I should stop feeling so proud of myself when I manage to keep up with my laundry on any given week.
I was going to write about Natalie yesterday when news broke that she and fiance/Black Swan co-star Benjamin Millepied welcomed a baby son, but then I decided to wait and see if there’d be any other details forthcoming — like the baby’s name. But mum’s still the word from Portman’s camp on that front. What do you guys think: will she go with something normal or follow the celeb trend of choosing a “unique” (read: totally bizarre/ridiculous) moniker for her firstborn? I’m leaning toward the former.
The actress has stated that she’s OK with not knowing what lies ahead in her future — right now she has no projects brewing and could very well decide to take some time off from acting after such a banner year. However, though she backed out of the lead role in Craig Gillespie’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies adaptation, she is staying on as a producer. She also served as a producer on Hesher (an indie currently in theaters in which she stars alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and an executive producer on No Strings Attached and The Other Woman. So maybe the not-quite-as-involved path of producing will be what she chooses for a little while.
And in case you forgot, her two other 2011 films (I already mentioned four above) were the mighty flop Your Highness and the mighty success Thor.
Hesher is the only one of Natalie’s recent films that we haven’t covered on redblog to date, so let’s remedy that right now, shall we? Here’s its trailer — I was unable to attend a screening before it hit theaters in limited release on May 13, but I’ve heard very mixed responses. Have any of you seen it, and if so, what did you think?
Best wishes to Natalie, Benjamin and Li’l No-Name as they enjoy their first days and (sleepless) nights together! (But knowing Natalie she probably created the perfect child who sleeps soundly through the night and does nothing but smile and look cute during the day…)
