Before you watch the trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes, let me get my complaining out of the way: I really wish they’d kept the title as Rise of the Apes. That’s what this prequel was originally called, and it sounded so much better — I hate the double “of”! It’s just such a clunky title and a total mouthful. Ah, well. Clearly the marketing team wanted people to have no doubt that the film was connected to the Planet of the Apes franchise which kicked off with the Charlton Heston-starring sci-fi drama in 1968.

Now we’ve got James Franco in the lead as the scientist whose experiments went awry and led to the primates’ revolt. As you’ll see from the preview, British director Rupert Wyatt’s vision is set in the present day, and — if all goes well — will serve as the “origin story” to reboot the series.

Anyone else find it comical how everything went silent during the part where they announced that the WETA team behind Avatar worked on the effects? It came off as a little desperate to me — I mean, that’s a fine point to mention, but since the effects are impressive and therefore speak for themselves, I didn’t think it was necessary to be so dramatic. Other than that, I liked what I saw. Did you?

And the biggest question is, will somebody say, “Damn them… damn them alllll!” in the prequel?
I feel like they have to.

It’s comical, but also understandable. Avatar made a lot of money, and mostly because the effects were so great, so they’re just hammering in what may (or may not be) an important selling point. The movie does look good, although when I saw the trailer before Scream 4 some people in the audience were snickering at the dialog lol

Which cartoon was it that did a parody of it and changed the line to “Darn them! Darn them all to Heck!”… ?

I laughed so hard at that.

    Was in Madagascar.

I too am looking forward to this.

Now, I had actually liked the Tim Burton remake years ago, though I know a lot that didn’t, but the one part that made me think they wouldn’t do a sequel was the ending. This remake to reboot does look promising though.
