FINALLY! A trailer that actually gets me excited for the movie it’s promoting!
What’s more surprising is that the movie in question, Source Code, doesn’t even star any of my favorite actors (sorry, Jake G fans) — it’s the concept and decent-looking execution that’s piqued my interest. Watch… and then let’s discuss below.
So… through the marvel of some futuristic technology that gives the movie its title, Jakey is able to inhabit another dude’s body for the last 8 minutes of that guy’s life. He does this over and over and over again in order to figure out who bombed a train… and prevent another attack from happening. But of course he’s got to fall in love with Michelle Monaghan in the process (who thinks he’s the other dude). And of course he then wants to try and alter the space-time continuum so that she won’t die in the blast.
While the whole “attempting to change the course of fate” is a little familiar and Groundhog Day and/or Butterfly Effect-ish, what’s made my expectations high for this one is that it’s directed by Duncan Jones (aka Zowie Bowie — remember how Locke and I fawned all over his debut film, Moon?) and written by Billy Ray (not Miley’s dad — the same screenwriter behind Shattered Glass, Breach, and State of Play, all of which I enjoyed immensely). What’s more, Vera Farmiga and Jeffrey Wright both rock, and the fact that they’re supporting players is a very good thing indeed.
So, I’m going to shake off my usual cynicism and boldly proclaim that I can’t wait for Source Code. (But I’ll have to wait — about four months — because it doesn’t hit theaters until April 1.)

Do you prefer your Jake G beefy and long-haired instead of clean-cut and businessy?
Then reserve a copy of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time on either DVD or Blu-ray!

I’m interested…feels like it could do the Vantage Point thing where you see the building same 15 minutes…but this time through the same eyes, just looking at it differently.

Agreed… but I hope it’s better than Vantage Point. That was another one I THOUGHT would be really cool but didn’t live up to its potential (I still thought it was OK, though — just not GREAT).
