redblog Readers Who Rock: Tish A (aka “Millar74″)

It’s that time again! Time to celebrate another loyal redblog reader and redbox user. Today I’m really excited to be able to put a name and face with one of our most formidable Threes champions: Millar74.  Yes, this is the woman who’s been beating almost all of you to the punch over the months with her movie trivia (or Googling) skillz.

Here she is, posing with some swag from her goodie bag!

When did you start using redbox, and how did you find out about us?

I started using redbox about a year ago.  Used to be nothing for my friends and me to go out and see a movie or two every week at the theater.  But prices have gone up and wallets have gotten tighter. I saw these machines at all of the McDonald’s restaurants and thought it was kind of silly.  Not anymore.  I’ve been renting redbox ever since and haven’t looked back. On a related note, I found redblog because I read Erika’s Long Live Locke blog and saw a link to it.  I needed something to read over the summer.  Clicked the link and found movie goodness. Thanks, Erika!

Glad I could be of service!  So how close is the redbox you usually go to?

Well, that depends. If I’m at work and decide it’s a good night for a movie, I just go across the street to the Harris Teeter.  [That's a grocery chain in the south.]  If I’m at home, I go about a ¼ mile up the street to McDonald’s for a movie AND dinner.

What five movies would you want on a deserted island (deserted… except for a TV and a DVD player and one electrical outlet)?

The Lion King – That opening sequence gets me every time. It took my breath away. The music, the animation and James Earl Jones.  Need I say more?

Pulp Fiction – I love Quentin Tarantino. I have to admit I’m late to the game. When this movie came out I was going through a phase of not watching R-rated movies. So I didn’t see it until 2000. Boy, did I miss out.  Tarantino’s dialogue and delivery are amazing. I seriously had a hard time choosing between this one and Kill Bill (I count Volumes 1 and 2 as one movie). But I’ll have to take Samuel Jackson quoting scripture over Beatrix Kiddo.

When Harry Met Sally – This is my comedy selection. From the car ride to New York after college, the wagon wheel that she will never want and the deli scene with the much loved phrase “I’ll have what she’s having,” you just can’t go wrong.

Sense and Sensibility – This is my sappy girl movie. It makes me sniffle every time. From Emma Thompson’s Ms. Dashwood having stoic resolve to keep her heart silent, to Kate Winslet’s Marianne who throws caution to wind only to be taught humility, it has everything a girl needs.  Not to mention Alan Rickman and Hugh Laurie (albeit a small part).

Titanic – OK, I needed another chick flick. But a lot of people die in it so it’s not so girly. I know everybody got sick of Celine Dion, but I just love the music from this movie and the love story spoke to me. Even though you know what’s gonna happen you still take the journey with them to see if her heart will go on.

[Check out Tish's dramatic reenactment of a scene from Titanic in the pic above!]

Any movie you particularly despise?

White Noise. It was just stupid. A waste of money and talent.

Geez, I had to look that one up!  (It’s a 2005 thriller starring Michael Keaton, for others who’ve never heard of it.)  Who’s your favorite actor and why?

Dogma

Alan Rickman. He’s so versatile. He can play the bad guy like in Die Hard, Robin Hood or Harry Potter. He can play comedic roles like in Galaxy Quest or your standard roles like Love Actually or Something the Lord Made.

I love Alan, too.  Don’t forget about him as the seraph Metatron in Dogma!  Now, who’s your favorite actress and why?

Kate Winslet.  Because she’s real. Not too keen on the fact that she’s nekkid in every movie she makes, but I like what she stands for and how she carries herself.

What about actors or actresses you can’t stand?

Renee Zellweger.  Do I need a reason?  Well, she can’t really act, her voice is annoying and I hate her chipmunk cheeks. No matter how skinny she gets her cheeks are always huge.  Am I the only one who sees this?

Nope, I’ve noticed it, too.  I’m not a fan of hers, either.  Speaking of things you don’t like, have you ever walked out of a theater or stopped watching a DVD because you thought the movie was so bad?

Deepbluesea

I don’t stop a movie or DVD for anything. If I spent money on it, then I’m watching it. If anything has been stopped in my presence, someone else is doing it. I will say that I almost broke that record with Deep Blue Sea. Right around the time Samuel L. Jackson is giving that dumb speech about surviving somewhere. (SPOILERS AHEAD)  I had purse in hand and then BAM he gets eaten.  I stayed and the movie got better. Wasn’t fantastic, but I was glad I stayed.

Who’s your favorite movie villain?

Rebecca De Mornay in The Hand that Rocks the Cradle. She was one crazy heifer in that movie.  The way she could go from being sweet to vicious in a three-second span was amazing. “Give me my baby!!”

Wow, that’s a great pick, and not one you hear every day — I almost completely forgot about that movie, but you’re right, she is a total freak of the week in it.  On to brighter topics, do you own any film soundtracks, and if so, which ones are your favorite?

Any musical that’s been made into a movie, I have the soundtrack for. My current favorites are Dreamgirls and Chicago. I also like the soundtrack from Save the Last Dance and Drumline.

Johnny_Depp_6

What actor and actress —dead or alive— would you want to meet if you had the chance? Why?

Johnny Depp.  Ummmmm…cause he’s hot. He’s a great actor, too… but seriously, cause he’s hot. Just being honest.

I appreciate the fact that you’re keeping it real with your reasoning!  So I know you’ll tell the truth for this one: what’s the hardest you’ve ever cried at a movie?

I love a good cry. Sometimes I go to movies just to cry. Gotta flush out the system every once in awhile.  The hardest I’ve cried would have to be during Steel Magnolias. It stills makes me cry to this day. But I’m sure that movie is the one where I cried the hardest.

Not to keep harping on the negative, but has a movie ever given you nightmares?

I can’t watch Exorcist III by myself at all. That movie freaks me out. I think Locke mentioned that movie in relation to your write-up about the trailer for Legion.  Even thinking about it now has me all weirded out.  Another movie that gave me nightmares was American History X.  It was a little too raw and real for me.

Well, I’m never going to see any of the Exorcist movies, but I did see American History X and totally agree with you.  There’s one scene in it (I’m not even going to mention it because it’s so awful) that still haunts me to this day, over a decade later.  That means we need to STOP talking about this stuff and move on to something else.  How about movie quotes?  What are some of your favorites?

“Damn, we’re in a tough spot” – O Brother, Where Art Thou?

“I’ll have what she’s having” – When Harry Met Sally

“I’ll cut your heart out a spoon.” “Why a spoon, cousin, why not an axe?” “Because it’s DULL, you twit. It’ll hurt more.” – Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

ET

Do you know what the first movie you ever saw was?

It was E.T. I cried during that movie, too, by the way.  It was great first movie to see. I think every kid in my neighborhood jumped ramps and curbs in an effort to fly.

What was the last movie you saw?

The Informant, at a sneak peek.  It was…..different. I’m still mulling it over in my head. Not what I expected at all. I will not say more since I don’t know how to describe it sans spoilers.

I saw that one, too, and I really liked it.  But you’re right — if people don’t know the details of the true story it’s based on before they watch it, they might be fairly surprised at the turns it takes.  OK, so I have one last question for you: What’s the movie you’ve seen the most and/or could recite all of or parts of by heart?

Millar_say cheeseThe movie I could recite all or parts by heart is a movie that not a lot of people have seen. It’s Two Can Play that Game with Vivica A. Fox.  It cracks me up for some reason.

There’s nothing in there that I would quote now, and it doesn’t have anything that falls in my favorite quotes category, but if that movie is on, I start saying every line. Can’t explain it.

Now you’ve got me curious and I’m going to have to check it out.  But in the meantime, thank you so much for chatting, Tish, and for being a redblog Reader Who Rocks!

(All past Reader Who Rocks interviews can be found here.  Stay tuned for another installment next week…)

How about a version of “Bloggers Who Rock”, with Erica, James, and Locke answering the questions? Along with “cute” pictures of themselves.

OMG, this series of Redblog is outstanding! This series Redblog Readers Who Rock is great for moviegoers,Redbox users, and Redblog Readers, it’s interesting. Some of these interviews are so hilarious, you just want to laugh your socks off since they are so entertaining and that’s the good part of it. The Titanic film is also my favorite.
I guess, I better tell more of my family’s friends and my friends about Redbox\Redblog so they know how great and awesome Redbox is, only a $1.00 + tax for each film that you rent, can’t beat that!

Millar74 (Can I call you Tish ;-)?) I got “You Don’t Mess With the Zohan” which I had rented from Redbox a while back during the Free Monday Code frenzy, it certainly was not the best Sandler…in my honest opinion, it’s probably one of his worst…Also…I really didn’t need to see that much old nakedness from certain stars…ever…*shudders*
I’d personally *ahem* love to do my own readers who rock to showcase my swag bag and give my thoughts…but that’s up to our lovely judges/authors to decide…

I got 10,000 B.C. didn’t have a desire to see it but now that i own it i guess i’ll have to watch it. Any reviews?
Ah, Zohan. yeah not the best offering but it had it’s moments.

You’re welcome Donna. Well, it’s a Sandler film, so there has to be some obscene moment that makes you go, “Why’d they do that?”
And then you remember, “I’M CRAZY PICKLE ARM!!!” and it all makes sense…
10,000 BC had its moments, though I don’t want to ruin it. I gave it a 5 out of 10.
Though out of the two movies mentioned, I’d watch 10,000 BC again before watching Zohan, though I know one of my fellow movie geeks will be interested and I will oblige them…but not warn them about the nudity…better for shock value for friends ;-).
