Is There a Chance that Fame Could Fly (High)?

You all know how I feel about remakes by now, right?  I’m not a fan.  So when news broke last year that an updated version of the 1980 musical drama Fame was in the works, I of course rolled my eyes and shook my head in disgust — especially since Kevin
Tancharoen (a dance choreographer for Britney Spears and Madonna’s) had signed on to direct.  To direct!!!  The original was nominated for six Oscars, people!  Yet someone thought that it was not only a good candidate for a “do-over,” but also that the guy behind the camera should be the twenty-three-year-old responsible for The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll

After seeing the first trailer that hit the web today, however, my feelings have softened a little bit.  The new Fame doesn’t look that horrible.

Even though they weren’t shown in the preview above, the film will reunite Cheers and Frasier castmates Kelsey Grammer and Bebe Neuwirth, and has both Megan Mullally (Will & Grace) and original Fame alum Debbie Allen on board as well — they’ll fill out the teacher/principal/instructor roles at the performing arts high school where all of the story’s action goes down.

So while there may be a glimmer of hope for this remake based on its trailer, its posters are a different story.  Don’t you agree that most people are going to think that these are blatant rip-offs of the iPod campaign, or Coke ads, or something having to do with American Idol

What?

No one’s going to remember your name with these awful posters, Fame!  Luckily, you have some time to fix this mess before the film opens on September 25  — go back to the drawing board… now.
