It’s Time to Fear the Molasses Swamp Once Again…

… because Candy Land is being made into a movie.  I'm completely fired up about this news because I loved this game as a kid and I think that it has the potential to be as visually stunning and cool — in a trippy sort of way — as Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

For those of you not familiar with the classic children's board game, it's really pretty simple: players race along a winding trail through sweet tooth-inspired areas like the Peppermint Stick Forest and Lollipop Woods.  Not the most obvious choice for a film adaptation, but hey, Monopoly, Battleship and Ouija Board movies are in the works, and I certainly think Candy Land has just as much, if not more, potential than those.

Especially when you consider that Enchanted director Kevin Lima will be working from a script penned by Etan Cohen, the guy behind Tropic Thunder, Madagascar 2 and the upcoming, still unnamed, Judd Apatow-produced Sherlock Holmes flick.

It's only a matter of time now before Chutes and Ladders gets its moment in the sun, wouldn't you say?

Okay, I can understand video games, comics, and children’s stories, but a board game? …really?
Board games tend to be simplistic and pedantic for a reason. They are about playing the game, not storytelling. Pardon me if I am skeptical about this one.

There already is a cartoon version of the Candyland game. My daughter has it and loved it
