Funny “Ha-Ha”! The Redblog 2008 Favorite Films Poll: Comedies

by | Dec 31st, 2008 | 11:25AM | Filed under: Other Bits

Welcome to the Chuckle Hut and the third day of our favorite films of ’08 poll!

– The four genre polls are Drama Monday,
Family Tuesday, Comedy/Musical today, and Action/Thriller on Thursday. All the polls are still open, so feel free to hop back and vote in the others. Then on Friday we’ll take the top two winners of each genre
and pour them into a final Best of the Year poll.

– The nominees were assembled fairly un-scientifically,  based
mostly on box-office and DVD sales and rental charts, but with some
consideration given to critically acclaimed titles. Still, feel free to let us know in
the comments what beloved stuff we left off.

– Vote for as many titles as you like in each poll.

Laugh and the world laughs with you. Fail to vote and Semi-Pro could win. And let’s hear it in the comments what you think of these choices or the ones we left off.

Cooper! I completely agree! Step-Brothers got unfairly caught in a sort of post Semi-Pro anti-Farrell backlash last summer, but I LOVED it — it would make my top 5 comedies of ’08 easily. It may go for a big cheaper laughs than say the sublime genius of Anchorman, but Farrell and O’Reilly are really VERY funny in it.
And believe me, I bounced it in and out of this poll list a few times as I was putting it together, but in the end, for vague reasons I now regret, I ended up leaving it off. It definitely joins the McCay-Farrell Pantheon of Anchorman and Talledega Nights.
And full disclosure, I laughed quite a bit at Semi-Pro as well… I really don’t have much shame…

I’ve only seen three of the movies on this list, but Semi-Pro was far funnier than any of them. The fact you would leave Semi-Pro off the ballot and include the completely unfunny Sex and the City makes this ballot lack any credibility. Also, unless Four Christmases, Mamma Mia, and Tropic Thunder were WAY funnier than their lousy movie trailers, there is really no reason to have them on here and not Semi-Pro. Give me a write-in vote for Semi-Pro.

Ballot lacks any credibility?!?! How dare you besmirch the integrity of this little web poll?!
But I think, more importantly, we’ve just found the second person in North America who thought Semi-Pro was funny. I’m the other one — but as I said, that’s my issue to deal with.
No, the thing is the ballot was drawn pretty much from box-office and dvd rental lists, with a title or two tossed in from critic’s lists. Semi-Pro didn’t seem to make the cut in any of those categories.
It’s just ahead of it’s time. Maybe forever.
